Employment here in Southampton the then La Sainte Union and the now University of Southampton employed me part
time to teach German
speaking students who are referred to by all and sundry as Austrians . who are German Speaking. I tend to have to make the point again and again that although I teach Literature as a specialist subject all my students are English Speaking Students and are English speaking like myself from the cradle to the present time. So as Southampton University invited me to deal with this teaching contract over ll
years ago I certainly jumped at the chance.
Literature is a
great bridge builder in foreign cultures but then again I keep in touch with former Turkish employers and I know the Language School .. my favourite .. feels like me that for his students who are Turkish that its a great help to have the DVD and put on sub titles as well. In English Class its hard on the students if they are not activated in drama ... so I take his point in Turkey but its important that they speak out the parts they have been given by me in English if at all possible.
