Istanbul International Independent Media Forum are high on the notion of the
Turkish Nobel Laureate for Literature who has
been greatly honoured in France as Pamuk - a Literature Laureate and a holder of the Nobel Prize has been subpoena-ed by Ankara and awarded a Medal In Paris by the French Authorities.
When Orhan Pamuk was presented recently with this Medal from Paris, France he made the statement that " I'm receiving this medal on behalf of the City of Istanbul where I live!" However, Pamuk was not permitted to rest easy on this success and he is being charged in Turkey with a compensation claim from citizens who are demanding 36,000TL from him!
Apparently because of a charge in Turkey of anti Turkishness Pamuk had faced a prison sentence but was /let off/! Pamuk apparently made a statement in Switzerland in 2005 to the effect that "on this ground 30,000 Kurds and 1 million Armenians were killed".
It seems that Orhan Pamuk is facing hard times .. . lets hope they get it sorted out as soon as possible as I am sure it must be a bit like digging up the past to prove we stand in the future! Hard work!
