Media Jobs and Current Events

Website Review by: Jason Curts

Any newcomer to a career in media should get familiar with JournalismJobs.com. You can search for a job by specific field,
including, “Newspapers and Wires,” “TV and Radio,” “Magazines and Publishing,” “Online and Other” and a “ Diversity” section that includes jobs from companies who encourage applications from diversity candidates.
The site also allows you to post your resume online for companies to review. Also, set up job alerts that can be delivered to you via email. Another nice highlight is the job seeker folder for those who have filed a resume online. The folder lets you store potential jobs that you might have an interest in.
To stay on pulse with current issues in the media, there is a survey you can take part in and see how others in the field feel about a topic. If you aren’t familiar with the topic, there is a link you can click on that takes you to a related story. If you’re paranoid and don’t like taking part in online surveys for fear someone is recording your every answer, there is an option to just see the poll results without taking part.
Each week there is a “Spotlight” on someone in the media who is doing something of interest. From publishers and Senior Editors to news anchors and reporters, a backlog of interviews can quickly be accessed from the main page.
What media job search engine would be without several reliable media links. Here you can find virtually any newspaper in the United States, a wide collection of magazine companies, as well as TV stations, radio stations and journalism schools, just in case you’re thinking about getting into the business.
A list of media related events from across the country are also listed on the main page. The events cover such topics as Diversity in Journalism, various media associations, and specialty conferences such as “online news.”
Finally, an array of media news headlines can be found at the bottom that will keep you up to date on current issues.
