The Simpsons Archive at SNPP.com is clearly the best site on the web for dedicated fans of The Simpsons television show.
In fact, if you are a big fan of the show and computer literate, you probably already have visited this site. If those qualifications don't describe you and you are still interested in finding just about every last detail about the greatest show in American television history, then you definitely need to access this site.
The SNPP stands for Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, the plant owned by Montgomery Burns and where Homer Simpsons is employed. Despite this, however, the site bears no resemblance to a nuclear power plant site. It's pretty basically lain out, with easily accessed menus down the side. The links are just as basically described.
FAQs, GUIDES & LISTS: An amazing
collection of every piece of arcane, fan-obsessed
information you could ever even think of needing to know. Forget all about your average FAQ page, this page is as if an ordinary FAQ list was contaminated with nuclear energy leaking from inside the power plant and grew to monster proportions. On this page you will find detailed information about every major character and most of the minor recurring characters. There are multiple links to information on all the seemingly endless varieties of Simpson-related merchandise from DVDs and music, to video games and comic books, to a collection of different links about Simpson trading cards. Here you will find information on the over 350 Simpsons episodes, including credits, the chalkboard gags, the couch gags, Itchy & Scratchy episodes, and awards won by the show. One of the great things about The Simpsons, of course, is the plethora of allusion that the show makes to every conceivable point of reference. For instance, were you aware that the show, to date, has made over 15 difference references to beavers? Of interest on this page, also, are links to trivia games, a purity test, alternative theories on who really shot Mr. Burns, and anagrams related to show that verges on the psychotic. And, of course, there are the lists. Oh, are there lists. From the obvious, like Bart's prank calls to Moe, to the much less obvious such as the list of nude appearances by characters. Whew!
UPCOMING EPISODES: Just what it sounds like. Capsule descriptions of upcoming episodes, including those scheduled for the season which hasn't even begun yet.
EPISODE GUIDE: Just about every episode ever aired is conceived as a project that gives crucial information such as the blackboard/couch gags, excerpts and summaries from the scripts, Did You Notice contributions from viewers that will either amaze or confound you with their attention to detail, voice credits, references explained, Freeze Frame fun for the gags that pass so quickly you might not have noticed them, flubs and goofs, viewers comments and ratings.
MISCELLANEOUS: Perhaps the most fascinating section of the entire site, this page includes the full texts of just about every article ever written in a major media outlet on The Simpsons, full texts of interviews with artists, writers, actors, and producers who have worked on the show, excerpts from books written about the show, fanscripts, and my personal favorite, a collection of academic papers that covers topics as diverse as using the Simpsons to teach mathematical concepts to students and how the Duff Beer product in the show is used to satirize advertising from American beer companies. The best paper in this section is a truly profound examination of discourse theory and cultural theory and how they are addressed in The Simpsons. Brilliant.
In addition to this collection of almost overwhelming information, The Simpsons Archive offers an easy method of accessing the contributions to the newsgroups, a list of links to other Simpsons sites and a constantly updated section focusing on the latest news related to the show. Here you will find the out when the next DVD is scheduled for release, bits about the planned Simpsons movie, the newest books, what other projects the voice actors are doing, etc. If it's about the Simpsons, you will more than likely find out about it here first.
There are plenty of Simpsons fan sites on the internet (though far less than before Fox began cracking down on them for copyright violations), but The Simpsons Archive is clearly the head of the pack.
