David O. Russel directed this screwball comedy. Ben Stiller plays an entomologist who, after the birth of his first child, has grown increasingly anxious about his own roots. Much to the chagrin of his annoying adoptive
parents played by Mary Tyler Moore and George Seagal, he decided to go across the country to meet his biological parents played by Lily Tomlin and Alan Alda. Along with him are his wife played by Patricia Arquette, a beautiful yet crazy adoption agent and two bi-sexual Federal Agents. For this great comedic effect, everything goes miserably wrong. The whole cast shines, especially Tomlin and Alda as aging hippies. Rusell''s dialogue is smart and witty and he crafted his story well. With each mishap and miscommunication building on the latter part towards a sort of crescendo of comic frustration.
