Fanfiction.net used to be a grand website. It had
Fanfiction of all
types, all ratings, and you could get quite a bit
of a kick out of some
of the
fanfiction that it had. Not anymore however; most of the good
fanfiction is hidden from readers due to the rating, good fanfiction is
scarce now, and certain types of fanfiction have been
completely banned.
Fanfiction.net used to allow readers to submit NC-17 and MST-style
(Mystery Science Theater) works to their website. Due to complaints,
those types of fics were completely banned. Now, NC-17 fics are
somewhat understandable, considering that it was mostly hardcore porn.
There were, however, some fics that were just that rating due to the
extreme amounts of gore in them. Those fics were good. There were even
some fics that had sex in them that really did have a very good
storyline and the sex wasn't random; it was expected. MST-style fics
were banned for no apparent reason; most of the authors of those fics
got the permission of other authors to write them. They were hilarious
too. They shall be sorely missed.
R-rated fics, which can be pretty good, are completely hidden when you
first enter the site. You have to know where to look if you even want
to see the fics at all, and there's no setting that allows you to keep
your settings. The reason why is unknown, and it gets really annoying
to change the setting over again.
Let's not forget the crappy authors on the site. Most are unfortunately
pre-pubescent, and even worse, they are writing nothing but Yaoi and
Yuri fics with no storyline whatsoever, hordes of spelling errors and
unbelieveably bad grammar. Then there's the fact that they write it in
script format, which is completely retarded; they are supposed to be
writing a story, not a play!
Fanfiction.net has deteroritated into a steaming pile of crap. Authors
should look somewhere else to publish their fanfiction, as it may never
be seen under the load of bad fanfiction that lies within it. Until
they come out with some sort of quality control, or ban Yaoi and Yuri
fics, Fanfiction.net is dead in my eyes.
