Deadlock 2 – shrine wars is a turn based
strategy game.
The player commands the
colony of the race that he chose on the
planet. There are seven races, between them mankind, that each of them have their own abilities. The colony starts with five hundred people (100 people are represented by one symbol). Gradually the people multiply & the colony grows. The player''s basic options are to expand to more
territories,
build buildings, research technology, upgrade buildings, build military units and conquer the enemy territories. The game is very realistic in the terms of the things that can be done and in the aspect of the colony needs. The downside is that the computer''s AI is not at the top, to say the least.
There are three optional goals. The first is obvious – to annihilate all the others. The second is to build a specific
number of city centers. The third is to discover & hold a certain number of shrines that the ancients have left behind. Every goal and every planet map requires a different strategy. Of course, expansion and strengthening the colony are universal but when things are even, victory lies with choosing the right plan. If, for example, there is a row of territories that creates a kind of a river, then a good tactic might be to build marine
platforms in order to block passage, however, it will be a bad strategy if the planet consists mostly of water because then the platforms can be bypassed. It all depends in the abilities of the colony and in the power of the rivals.
To sum up, the game provides many hours of fun and thinking at the beginning but later it tends to be boring.
