Gaming at a Professional Level:<br>In
today's ever growing society, the usual jobs still remain. We still
have fast food employees, construction workers, doctors, nurses and pro
sports players. However, among these jobs a new occupation is beginning
to become more and more popular as time progresses. This occupation is
none other than professional gaming. That's right, more and more
frequently, teens and adults alike are being paid to do what they enjoy
the most, play video games. The spectrum of these games range from
playing soccer on an XBOX360 to First-Person Shooters on the PC, but
they all share one thing in common, Money. Organizations
such as The CGS, (Championship Gaming Series), contract players for
more than 30,000$ a year to play seasons that last for only 2 months.
While the numbers are nice, not everyone has what it takes to play at
the professional level. It takes many years of practice not only on the
individual level, but working together as a team to reach the talent
that organizations such as Los Angeles CompLexity already maintain.
Just like with any other skill, professional gaming requires Desire,
Dedication, and most importantly, Discipline. These three "D"'s were
the basis of one of the first professional E-Sports organizations,
Team3D, which is now known as 3D.NY, New York's CGS team. If you have an interest in becoming a professional gamer, but fear you do not
have what it takes, don't let your hopes down just yet.
The community
that comes with E-Sports is always willing to offer its help when you
ask for it. Professional gamers Ron "Rambo" Kim as well as Ognian
"steel" Gueorguiev, have recently released their 200+ Page guide "The
art of Counter-Strike", or "TAO-CS", which provides in depth write ups,
videos,
and personal opinions to help make YOU a better
Counter-Strike player. However, reading a guide and watching some
videos will not make you a better gamer. Applying these lessons in the
correct situation and having faith in yourself and your abilities are
the steps required to achieve your goals, and the only person who can
do that is you. As
stated above, not everyone has what it takes to become a professional
gamer. The amount of skill required can only be paralleled by the
amount of dedication. The most important thing you can do is the stay
in school and maintain your education while keeping gaming as a hobby,
until one day you feel you are ready to make the commitment that is
needed as a pro gamer.
