Road RashThe Road Rash franchise got started in 1991 on the
Genesis and continued until 2003, with its last game releasing on the
Gameboy Advanced. It was Road Rash on the original PlayStation that made
me a fan of this exciting motorcycle racing series. Everything about
the game, from beating your opponents with bats and chains during a hit
speed race, to the soundtrack was amazing and addictive. Fans have been
vocal about wanting a reboot. After years of rumors, EA said in 2011 that they "haven't forgotten about Road Rash."
Earthworm JimIn
1994, Earthworm Jim was released for the SNES and Genesis. As Jim,
players got to jump and shoot their way through some of gaming's
weirdest levels in order to save Princess-What's-Her-Name. The first two
games were highly acclaimed and Earthworm Jim even had his own cartoon
for awhile. However, the series started to suffer when the later games
weren't made by the original developers. An Earthworm Jim title was
being worked on in 2007, but it was canceled. While gamers would love to
see the series rebooted, there has been little information to go on.
Killer InstinctVideo
game developer Rare has been busy making games for Kinect lately, but
what gamers really want to see is a reboot of Killer Instinct. The
fighting game hit arcades in 1994, and it debuted on home consoles the
next year. Killer Instinct blended the best of Mortal Kombat and Street
Fighter. It created its own brand of fighting game, complete with crazy
combos and Fatality styled endings . While Rare has said they want to make a third game, nothing concrete has happened yet.
Tecmo's DeceptionDeception
was released in 1996 for the original PlayStation. In this strategy
/RPG game, players become the head of a mansion. When outsiders come
knocking, it's up to you to decide if they should be killed or helped.
Deception and its two sequels let players build elaborate and
customizable traps for dealing with unwanted guests. Each game also has
multiple endings. After 2005's Deception styled title, Trapt, Tecmo has
been silent about new releases or a reboot of the unique horror series.
Star FoxThe
beloved Nintendo franchise created by Shigeru Miyamoto is in need of a
proper reboot. Star Fox 64 was recently revamped for the 3DS, but fans
have been waiting for a new game since 2006. Since the Wii was released,
Miyamoto has said he wanted to make another Star Fox. Now, it looks
like gamers will have to wait for the upcoming Wii U for any new titles.
Rebooting
a once popular video game can be tricky. Gamers want to feel the same
way they did while playing the original, but something new is also
expected. As long as any reboots these five might receive stay true to
the spirit of the game, fans will be happy.
