"Tablet”- This name adds brightness to the face of gadget lovers. A small device that is slightly larger than a mobile phone with a flat touch screen is craved by many throughout the world. The stylus pen or the digital pen stands as a style icon. The absence of a physical keyboard makes it lighter and feasible to carry around. This techie slate grabs the attention of many with its tantalizing features. Internet browsing, GPS navigation, video camera functions and the ability to serve the purpose of a phone has made the tablet hit limelight. Anybody and everybody would love to own one. But before purchasing an expensive tablet several things need to be analyzed. Check out the following before becoming the proud owner of a tablet.

Operating system

Numerous operating systems are available for the tablets. The most popular of all is the iOS that is found in the iPad and iPhone. Android 3.0 by Google is the new OS. Blackberry and HP tablets use a few other operating systems. Although a few of them use Windows 7 this is not for tablet use. Decide on the operating system that your tablet needs.

Screen size

Comfort and portability are the two factors that influence the screen size. The original iPad that hit the market came at the size of about 9.7 inches. There are tablets that have a display which vary from 5 inches to 10.1 inches. However, there is only a thin line of difference between the 5- inch tablet and the smartphone. You need to be extra careful while choosing the screen size.

Processor

Similar to mobile phones, the ARM processor technology is used in tablets. ARM chips are being designed by several companies and release in various versions. Most of them are dual-core, similar to PC processors. The Apple A5 chip is used in the Apple iPad 2. Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor is used in the Android 3.0 tablets.

3G enabled

Wi-Fi is available in all tablets that can be connected to the wireless home network. Some tablets have two versions, where one version supports 3G. A mobile internet-enabled SIM card can be inserted and you can enjoy internet on the go. These tablets are expensive and a data contract needs to be signed.

Apps compatibility

Companies run their own App store. The Apple App store tops the list with over 300, 000 apps available. In addition to this 65,000 apps are specially designed for the iPad 2 which runs most of them. Android has thousands of Apps and it works with Honeycomb as well. Other operating systems carry only a few apps.

Weight

The weight and thickness of a tablet is the concern of many. Well, it has a close connection with its stylish looks. iPad 2 weighs just 601 g and is 8.8mm thick. The Blackberry Playbook which is the smallest tablet weighs 400 g and is 9.7mm thick. If you are a person who holds the tablet for a long time, thin tablets would suit you the best.

Are you a person who would like to pursue work through the tablet? I would say it is a bad idea. The Tablet is a lovely innovation. But, they can never replace a laptop or a desktop.
