Formula One 06

Website Review by: AshKetchum

Imagine if you had a swimming lessons, only for your teacher to do two widths, give you a Speedo-wedgie and a push you in
the deep end. Or on your very first driving lesson, the instructor cruises into the countryside while lecturing you about sparkplugs, stop in a deserted lane, nicks all four tires off your Nova and then ask for a lift home. Welcome to F1 06. In Easy mode, everything is done for you -  Automatic gears, automatic brakes, traction-control and a painted-on racing line. It''s a fast and it''s fun, but more like Scalextric than F1. But if you step up to the realistic Medium or Hard modes, you''re expected to just get on with it. There is no mid-race middel ground and no easy way to gradually turn off the gadgets. It''s super-fast bumper cars or realism. Painful realism. And realism is something 06 does well: Real Cars, trackes, drivers, and sounds, altough the commentary is disjointed that you worry Martin Bundle is jabbing James Allen with his car keys just to keep him awake. The rest you know, if yo''ve played any of the F1 games in the last decade because the racing is smooth, slick, and online, it is also dull. And that''s because like so many yearly updates, there is a little room for new ideas. Against the likes of TOCA and Gotham, F1 06 doesnt quite crash and burn, but it doesn''t quite shine either.
