A book of
maps must surely be known as an Atlas but how many times does one
explain that it is a book of maps plus other information on the city of say, Prague, plus
luxury hotel accommodation.
Geography and
Map reading is a specialism that everyone must grapple with from time to time. How often have you been walking the dog or going on an authors walk and been stopped in your tracks by a distressed motorist and his passengers who have got the Map but cannot work out the
route in your particular city .. they have been diverted off the Map so to speak .. . and none of the
road signs tally with either the map data or the luxury hotels in your surrounding areas.
So when you kindly explain that the freeway, motorway or very busy road is underneath the flyover ... you are half way there if your enquirer is English speaking .. mostly they are not .. they are in fact French. So you can start this continental arm waving business because there isnt a police man or woman in sight so its up to you to redirect them back to the M3 or M27 M25 or Winchester Road or University in your area.
Where is the
nearest University ....is a question I am often asked and its useful to point out that road signs and directions in this connection are few and far between so its always up to me to explain how to get there, the more efficient route and so on.
Just as well I studied Geography and keep my hand in at Maps and related matters. Excellent stuff! Keep on map reading ...
