It was a close shave for the 200 poor Indian Fisherman on 26/12/2007. Timely alert message by the Indian and the Sri Lankan Navy folks near Palk Straits engaged in fierce
battle with the LTTE
militants saved these
fishermen. Their return was miraculous.
The 40
boats carrying these
lucky fishermen left Rameshwaram, a border
place in India for fishing in the Palk Straits. Soon the boats
reached a raging point where a fierce battle was ongoing between the Sri Lankan Navy and their dreaded militants - The LTTE, between Kachathivu and Nedunthivu. As the boats reached the water battle field, the Indian Navy cadres showed the red signal and asked the fishermen to revert back from the place.
A fisherman said ""We got so scared that we returned on seeing the flames caused by the bursting of shells,"
It was a lucky escape indeed for these fishermen!
