The Associated Press
reported on September 21st 2005 that some 1,907 U.S. military
personnel have
died since the
beginning of the Iraq war. At least 1,484 of those
deaths were the result of
hostile action, a fact verified by the U.S Defense Department.
The British too reported 96 deaths; Italy reported 26; Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria, Spain, El Salvador, Estonia, Thailand and the Netherlands, Denmark, Hungary, Kazakhstan and Latvia reported a combined tally of 69.
Some 1,768 U.S. soldiers died since President Bush's declaration on May 1, 2003 that major combat operations in Iraq had ended. Of these, over 1,300 died from hostile action. Since the beginning of the war, 14,641 U.S. military personnel have been wounded.
