Shashi Tharoor ko gussa kyon aata hain From United Nations to Indian politics, that is what Sashi
Tharoor accomplished. In addition, in his first attempt, he won the general election held earlier this year from the state of Kerala. Not only that, he was also chosen by the prime minister for the post of minister of state in the foreign ministry.
His perception about the Member of
Parliament seems not a perfect one, or his mind was still going through the rules of United Nations that he thought is applicable to members of parliament. Being a minister, he is entitled to have his bungalow in the posh secured locality of New Delhi, and he was allotted one in Lodhi Estate. Without having the idea of bureaucratic system, he reached Delhi and checked-in in a five star hotel in the vicinity. He planned to stay there for few days before being shifted to his bungalow. However, the reality was different; he got his residence in about three months’ time. That is not a big thing as far as Indian government is concerned. He too was happily staying in the hotel without ever thinking that he has to pay the bill.
The big thing was Tharoor’s anticipation that the government would bear the cost of his hotel stay of three months. This is too much he expected being a member of the parliament. When he approached the concerned department, it refused to pay the bill of hotel, which was few lacs of rupees. His expectation of five star entitlements is ridiculous. Did he not think that the money government pays is the taxpayers’ money? Tharoor paid the bill from his own fund. The government authority informed him that he could have stayed in the Kerala House, as he is the MP from that state. Was he aware of it?
