Man Trades Red Paper Clip for House
It started with one red paper clip and a crazy notion that the paper clip could
be the key to home ownership. Kyle MacDonald of Montreal, Canada wanted to own his own home but he didn't have the money nor did he really want to work for it. With one red paper clip, a blog site and a dream, Kyle MacDonald's dream came true; he is the proud owner of a two story house in Kilping, Saskatchewan. The city of Kipling, Saskatchewan, about two hours east of Regina, are awaiting his arrival to give him the keys to his house.
From conception to finale, in all, it took over one year and 14 trades before MacDonald got his house. His first trade from a pair of Vancouver based women who
traded a fish pen for the red paper clip. The fish pen was soon traded for a handmade doorknob from Seattle. The doorknob was traded for a 100 watt generator owned by U.S. Marine Sergant in California. The 100 watt generator was sentt to Queens, N.Y. in
exchange for an instant party kit complete with an empty keg, and illuminated Budweiser beer sign.
A Montreal radio hosted agreed to trade his bombardier snowmobile for the empty keg and beer sign. Trade after trade ensued and involved a few famous celebrities including famous rocker, Alice Cooper and actor Corbin Bernsen who gave MacDonald a paid movie role in exchange for a KISS snow Globe. In the end, the town of Kipling, Saskatchewan offered MacDonald a farmhouse in exchange for the movie role who in turn will hold a town wide competition for the part.
MacDonald attracted international attention and kept the momentum going with regular updates on his blog. This story is proof that anything is possible with a dream and a plan.
