Myspace is a popular online social network which offers user the ability to interact with their friends and meet new people by use of personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, music and videos. Myspace is currently the sixth most popular English-language website in the world and the third most popular website in the U.S.  The website was founded in late 2003 by Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe when it was partially owned by Intermix Media.  In mid 2005 the website was purchased by News Corporation, through its subsidiary Fox Interactive Media, for $580 million which at the time was considered to be a major risk.
A typical myspace profile consists of an "about me" and "who i'd like to meet" blurbs, list of favorites (movies, music, hobbies, etc.), photos of the user, a list of "friends" (where the top oens are shown on the profile homepage), and comments from the "friends".  If a user wants to change the appearance of the profile, myspace allows users to do so by embeding HTML codes into the profile fields.  In this way a user can add widgets, change the fonts and colors, add a background image, and completely alter the original layout and design.  Try it out if you haven't already!
