Tips for Writing Abstracts on Shvoong to Increase Their
Popularity
-
Make
sure that there are no SPELLING MISTAKES- that can easily turn off the
reader; after all, this is a literary site.
-
Minimize
the GRAMMATICAL ERRORS in your abstract as it would cause the same
reaction from the reader as the spelling mistakes.
-
Make
sure that there is ENOUGH INFORMATION in the abstract so that the reader
can still learn something from the summary.
-
Don’t
forget that you are WRITING for the WEB, which means that the abstract
should not be too long, should not be using difficult language and should
be broken down into manageable sections. The reason why it is important is
because it is more difficult to read text on the screen than it is, let’s
say, in a book. The attention span of the reader and the amount of time he
is willing to invest in is much shorter. And with so much designed for
AdSense junk-info out there, the
reader is ever suspicious.
-
CHOOSE
the TOPIC wisely. Consider the type of reader that uses this website to actually
read the abstracts and not just write them in hopes to make some extra
cash. The simplest way to think about is if you were designing a product while
keeping the target audience in mind. Ask yourself, what do they want? How
do they want to see it packaged? And then give them what they want. If it
still doesn’t sell, revise the strategy, try something different.
-
Make
sure that your abstract is EASY to READ and the sentences flow one into
another, making the reading experience natural and captivating. Some of
the abstracts out there use sentences that just do not lead one to
another, which creates the all-hated read-stop-read-stop experience. Just
think about it in terms of driving a car, when instead of a smooth ride
the driver pushed the breaks every few seconds; and what happens? You
puke!
-
For
those out there who don’t write in their native language-LEARN and
PRACTICE- trust me, that could be just the beginning, who knows what you
could accomplish with those skills- write your blog, write a book, write
for a newspaper, write for movies and TV. You want to be prepared when the
opportunity comes so that you can cash on it.
-
If you
decide to TRANSLE and ARTICLE, do justice by it and the original writer of
the abstract. Make sure you really are fluent in the chosen language. And
if you aren’t, then read the previous tip.
-
ENJOY
what you are doing and READ what you wrote before publishing it.
