the military ,Navy or whos in the Navalscience program in highschool.You learn English as a second Languagewith discipline,not only in the classes also on campus they wear Uniforms.They´re ESL programms are very informing.The Naval Postgraduate School has an ESL instructor on staff.She teaches speaking and writing.She also manages the ESL Lab that consists eight workstations and network compatible ESL Program softwares.Like IT1600,communication skills for Officers.They have the classes three hours a week,those are designed for first quarter Officers,who needs ti refresh or improve their speaking and listening skills.Their speaking activities include
pronunciation practice,impromtu
exercises,like group discussions,and also organized briefings.The reading and the writing skills are adresses in the speaking and listening activities.Grammar isn´t taught by then,but troublesome constructions are covered and be practiced in exercises.Included are handouts,audio,video,computer software programms and the internet.The ESL instructor conducts a speaking and listening proficiency interiew for each incoming international student to determinate the individual needs to attend the course.Then they have IT1700 Academic writing for international Officers.This is a two-hours a week class designed for third or fourth quarter Officers that needs academic writing instructions befor they start their thesis work.The class focuses on paragraphs,organisation,rhetorical styles,coherent and cohesive forms.In this class they also teach Grammatical structures,punctuation and documentations.The students write several drafts in the different rhetorical styles as class assignments.Student write programs thats used as a mean of self-study for parts of the classes.Students maintain portofolios of drafts for the classes.The NPS also have Language Laboratorys,the interactive computer language lab,opened January 2000,consists of four-computer stations.One, the ESL classroom,has two positions and the other one is located in the Know library on campus.They use the software with one multi-level interactive program called Dynamic English and two pronunciation programs. Pronunciation Power and pronunciation in American English. And Curriculum, developed by the ESL Specialists, primary based on commercial texts of writing, listening and speaking,with informations and articles from authentic materials,such as newspapers,journals and the internet.They have a few exercises from the Academic and Technical writing modules (American Language course) used in writing exercises or as handouts.And academic writing, speaking, and listening is very important.And their programs are always on the new stand they always get updated.You can contact other students.And also get to know the Naval History,you can look at many pictures at the website.Its always good to learn about the past and the future.
