HomeworkSpot is a free portal for students,
teachers, and
parents. If there is a child in your house, you will want to
bookmark this site.
HomeworkSpot is part of the StartSpot network and is organised on the
same lines as the other component
sites, which means that it is
organised extraordinarily well. Navigation is divided according
to audience: elementary, middle, high school, reference, and
parents/teachers.
The intent of this portal is to provide help to
children with their
homework and help to parents and teachers in educating those
children. The site is loaded with internal and external
links,
all of which actually work. Great care is taken to ensure that
the material provided is useful, so that the quality of both
HomeworkSpot and
linked sites is extraordinarily high.
Student menus tend to be
based on subject according to the level of
education. Surprisingly, since this an on-line and therefore
text-based service, health and fitness and extracurricular activities
are also included. Study break will probably prove to be the
favourite page of most children; it includes links to games and
crafts. As the age of the children increases, so does the
complexity of the games and quantity of information.
For parents, there is advice on selecting a school, on keeping children
safe when they use the internet and, of course, on helping children
learn. Further information on topics such as homeschooling and software are also included.
The resources for teachers are guaranteed to relieve some of the burden
in preparing lessons, as work sheets, puzzles, and other materials are
free for the download. There are lots of innovative ideas
available on linked sites to keep the children interested and
learning. This is a wonderful support resource for teachers
everywhere.
Probably the only drawback to the site is that some of the information
is pertinent only to American schools; this is, after all, an American
web site. However, the vast majority of the links, resources, and
information will benefit children and their parents and teachers in any
English-speaking family.
