Wired
Seniors (http://www.wiredseniors.com/ageofreason/) is a portal
for people over fifty years of age. Membership
is free and
members receive regular news releases and occasional
seniors discount
bulletins.
Like all other portals, Wired Seniors contains a multitude of
links. Some, such as Seniors Radio, simply lead off the
site. Others, however, are an integral part of the site and make
Wired Seniors a comfortable cyber-home for over-fifties.
The Discussion Forum, for instance, must surely rank as one of the most
interesting of its kind, no doubt because of the characters of the
participants. One discussion thread available at the time of
writing was a story created line by line by whoever cared to
contribute; the result was hilarious. Some
people post jokes,
others questions, some just start discussions on whatever interests
them.
Seniors Helping Seniors is another wonderful feature. Seniors are
able to ask questions in ten categories such as gardening, trivia,
photography, software, home maintenance, and cooking – or answer
them. The site is busy and full of helpful information.
Even Seniors Match is different from other match sites, in that it is
not restricted to dating. This site allows seniors to look for
pen pals or travel companions.
The Seniors Discount Mall will be of interest to shoppers. These
pages are grouped by goods and services and provide short ads from
retailers who offer seniors discounts. There are ads from all
over the world.
The Seniors Home Exchange is a wonderful way to arrange travel
accommodations, but there is a fee to join. This is a site that
allows seniors to exchange homes for vacation purposes. Postings
describe the home and its location, and other information such as
possible use of a car, whether or not it is a smoke- or pet-free home,
and what is available in the area.
The Seniors Bulletin Board allows members to post items for thirty
days; the only restriction is that it not to be used to advertise a
business. Individuals can buy and sell personal items or
advertise their home, seek accommodation, or look for a roommate.
This is a place to ask for help or look for a job, or search for an old
friend or family member.
Seniors Wired is a portal for people over fifty who want a little more
out of their web site. Navigation is a little uneven, but
generally-speaking, the site is easy enough to use, and the quality of
the information makes it well worth the minor inconvenience.
Visit Seniors Wired once, and you will want to return.
