Bing dents Google’s market share
Microsoft Corporation launched its
search engine Bing sometimes
back to capture the huge market share that Google is enjoying currently. Initially Bing did not do well, but Microsoft changed its policy to market Bing in a vigorous way, and it seems results are pouring in now.
In May of this year, Google had 65% market share of the internet search business in comparison to Yahoo’s 20.1% and Microsoft’s 8%. The first week of June saw Microsoft achieved 11.3% market share.
Most recent account of market share in this segment of business for the week of 8 June to 12 June (inclusive) shows that Microsoft has increased its share to 12.1%, which is said to be healthy. This information was available from the data released by the industry tracker ComScore. This is good news for Microsoft, but its CEO Steve Ballmer said the project Bing is a long-term one. He emphasized the need for tenacity instead of getting complacent for a long and steady progress to compete with Google. Ballmer did accept the fact that it is a hard task to beat Google in this segment of business, and termed this as “a big dog competitor”. Although two consecutive weeks Microsoft has increased its market share, yet the pundits in the field are eagerly waiting to see whether Microsoft sustains it for the whole month or not.
Google, on the other hand is trying to take the advantage of its rich user base in
search engine business to launch software in which Microsoft is way ahead than anybody.
Both these giant companies sneak to each other’s main business creating tensions between each other.
