COME ON HOLIDAY: This year and beyond if you are tired with crowds on the beach and cretins in the disco come on a holiday with a difference that makes a difference. Ethical tourism can lead adventurous travelers to exotic locations where they are going to work, visit on development or environment projects, teach in schools and achieve something positive with their time off. Please contact Volunteering Coordinator Initiatives on Email: copeacd@yahoo.com.
COPEA values volunteers, teachers’ donations and skills, the holiday package is going to be a favourite among those who want to ensure their donations are put in initiatives and schemes that promote the environment, community or volunteering works in an underdeveloped place, technologies poor, infrastructure is poor, untapped potential, etc, that is in resource poor countries.
PROSPECTS FOR JOBS: there are lots of volunteering opportunities out here, just do not expect to get paid!! For those inclined to seek paid work, they can do the research themselves during their holidaying stay with the projects they will be attached to. COPEA does not mind volunteers, teachers putting out feelers for great jobs placement elsewhere or adopting of own projects while attached to quality projects, provided due diligence is done to ensure the transition is tranquil to all involved.
MICRO PROJECTS: COPEA prides itself on its squeaky-clean image and justifiably so. Come and stay, work on holiday, implement a project of your choice, contribute/donate and you can be sure your contributions, skills will not end up in lining corrupt undertakings or investing in a project that pollutes the environment or exploits its beneficiaries. COPEA therefore, to prove its credentials, has introduced a partnership with a package as its vending service to encourage others to do the same.
Exposure and Poverty Conditions Endanger A Number Of Our Human Folks.
· More people are being lost to poverty exposure – some in rural and some in urban areas of East Africa because of poverty related environmental conditions, malnutrition and sanitation, and HIV/AIDS.
· Farmland has been fragmented by population explosion leading to poor yield of crops, degraded environment, then urban migration
· The governments have embarked on privatization, decentralization, restructuring and reform, which but benefit the few who have the means.
· The HIV/AIDS has attacked the economic viable age groups leading to enormous burdens on the extended family structure systems of African way of life.
But now, because of these conditions, commercial sex workers’ patrons no longer support their sex lifestyles and instead in Big towns like Mombasa on the Kenyan Coast the girls coming from places like Uganda are dying of the infection exposure and exacerbated by hunger for luck of gainful livelihoods.
Lydia (not her real name) and her daughter, come from Uganda. Lydia left Uganda at the height of political economic upheavals in 1980 for Mombasa and has lived and worked there as a sex worker ever since. Her teen-age daughter has also joined her. Lydia is living with HIV/AIDS.
A Kenyan middle age woman betrayed by the father of her children now submerged in abject poverty, homelessness …. Will her schooling age children and she survive? Margaret was a wedded wife, of middle-income livelihood until the husband pulled the economic carpet she was standing on as a family of 6 (she has 4 sons). The husband moved to his home village/town to retire by marrying another wife using loan money (processed by Margaret using her father’s land title)! <Mary has since then reconciled with her husband, in fact she travel there with her boys and there was a great party. Her hubby is building her a house and sending the boys to school>
