Word processor is basically a computer
application used for the production of any sort of printable material.
Microsoft Word is the most widely used word processing software; Microsoft
estimates over five hundred million people use the Office suite. There are also
many other word processing applications, such as WordPerfect, OpenOffice and
some online word processors such as Google Docs. I will not touch these because
most of us are familiar with them. So I decided to tell you about some
strangers that are available for you as word processing softwares. Below I have
listed some alternatives to MS Word but note that the information provided to
you comes without any warranty whatsoever. Use it at your own risk.
IBM
Lotus Symphony: IBM Lotus Symphony is a free office suite, based
on an earlier version of OpenOffice.org that includes a word processor (Lotus
Symphony Documents. It supports a number of file formats, including the Open
Document Format (ODF), Microsoft file formats. The software works on Windows
XP, Windows Vista and Linux.
ajaxWrite:
ajaxWrite is a web-based word processor that can read and write Microsoft Word
and other standard document formats. You can open, read or write a word
processor file, simply point your Firefox browser to http://www.ajaxwrite.com and then you will
be available to open, edit, print and save your documents. ajaxWrite also
handles all the popular document formats so it''s easy to share your files and
work with your
co-workers and friends. Once
finished with your document, you can easily store them to your hard drive.
ajaxWrite works from a Firefox web browser on any operating system and on any
device. As the application itself lives on the web, it updates automatically
for you.
Bean:
Bean is a word processor designed to make writing convenient, efficient and
comfortable. Bean is Open Source, Cocoa, and is available free of charge. Bean
is not a replacement for MS Word. It does not do footnotes or hierarchical
styles. Further, it is only partially compatible with MS Word''s .doc format. It
can automatically save your documents i.e. autosaving feature and supports a
bundle of file formats.
Zoho Writer:
Zoho Writer is a web-based word processor. You can access, edit, share
documents from anywhere. It is WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor.
It allows multiple users to work on a document simultaneously. You can import
Microsoft Word (DOC), OpenOffice text (ODT & SXW), HTML, RTF, JPG, GIF PNG
files. You can share your documents with your friends or publish them for
public view.
Abi
Word: Abi Word is a free word processor that supports Microsoft
Word documents, OpenOffice documents, WordPerfect documents, Rich Text Format
documents, HTML web pages, etc. Supported platforms include Windows, Linux,
FreeBSD, and QNX.
LyX:
It is word processor designed for scientists by scientists, and it shows
support for math and structured document creation. But you can also create a
letter or a novel or a theatre play using it. It has a number of presets for
document layouts and style modifications. Supported platforms include
Unix/Linux, Macintosh and modern Windows platforms. It is released under a Free
Software / Open Source license.
Jarte
Word Processor: The free version of the Jarte word processor
handles Microsoft Word 95, 97, 2000 documents, rich text format (RTF)
documents, and plain text (ASCII) documents. It is designed to be a superset of
Windows WordPad (which comes free with Windows). It works on Windows only.

A word processor for Windows that gives you the power to create professional
