In 1968, Lakeside moms made profits from a charity fund raising .They bought a computer and machine time to their young adolescent children. One of them, Bill , 13 years old, wrote his first program to play tick-tack-toe on the computer !
In 1972, Intel Company produces the 8008 microprocessor. Bill Gates, 16 years old and his 19 years old friend Paul Allen, used this microprocessor with a software to create a machine. This machine measures the density of car traffic. They tried to market their new product but it was a fiasco. Nobody bought it ! Anyway , our two kids continued working on soft wares, still believing in his potential.
Two years later, Intel company launched a new microprocessor : the 8080, ten times more powerful than the first one. It will be the brain of ALTAIR computer. Bill Gates and Paul Allen understand processors will be more and more powerful, small and cheap. They felt the future of this market before all the great computer builders : they asked themselves one question :
_ if the calculation power of computers is quite free, there will be a computer for everybody and the best program will be the winner ! Microsoft is born .This time, they’ve go it ! Success is fantastic and huge. MS DOS, the IBM exploitation system is sold to more than 100 millions clients over the world. Bill Gates is only 24 years old ! Other softwares will be launched by Microsoft Corporation with the same success : Word (text), Excel (calculations) under Windows environment.
Then our two guys asked themselves another question :
_ what will happen if the communication is free ? Windows 95 and Internet Explorer arrived, allowing its users to connect and surf on the World Wide Web.
The success continues, the future is here, we’re leaving the Information Revolution with new applications for work, education and leisure. For Bill Gates, the future of our planet is on our hands…
