Microsoft unveiled its database and Business Intelligence platform SQL Server 2008. The product was firstly made available for Manufacturing and will soon me into the pool for developers and others. It obviously had new features like auditing, huge data warehousing support,geospatial data, enhanced reporting and analysis. It even has policy based management and it feels that this product will be crucial and significant turning point not only for database needs but also a flexible version like support for SOA (Service oriented architecture) packages.
It is available in a range of versions like Enterprise,Workgroup,Web edition and so on of which Express and Compact 3.5 are free versions. Good news for Datawarehousing users as the product touched 10-Terabyted benchmark with a time consumption of less than 30 minutes to load 1 Terabyte data. In fact the product received benchamarks from hardware vendors like IBM and Unisys,who specified that it has set a record in ETL performance.
The preview is already in implementation was used by lot of large scale applications and software vendors for their data management solutions.
It is proven to be the only database solution to provide highly scalable outputs in addition it achieve 13 other benchmarks. 2008 developer version is meant for developers,testing and demo.
