Arnold Town (‘The Eagles‘) are a non-league football team at the Step 5 level of the English Pyramid system. The club were re-formed in 1989 as an amalgamation of Arnold FC (’The Saints’) and Arnold Kingswell (‘Kings’) and currently play their football at Gedling Road in the centre of the town near the Market Place. Organised football has been played at Gedling Road since the mid 1950s but the 2007/08 season will beckon the end of an era and Arnold Town are due to play their last ever game at the ground in April 2008. The Eagles are set to move out of town to a new development 2 miles into Brown Belt territory and to be called (at least initially) ’Eagle Valley’ although as has been pointed out - it’s hardly a ’Valley’. Work began at ’Eagle Valley’ in October 2007 and despite some early planning problems the club remains confident that football will be possible at the new ground for the opening of the 2008/09 season when Arnold Town will once again attempt to gain promotion out of the Northern Counties East League. If they are successful they will finally take their place at the Step 4 level of the pyramid (The Unibond League) something which has eluded the club for far too many years. The continuing saga of Arnold Town can be tracked by following events on www.freewebs.com/theallnewarnoldwho . This is an unofficial site maintained by the Arnold Town Supporters Club which itself was formed in 1990 and has since raised many thousands of pounds for the parent club. As well as all the usual match reports, squad details and statistics the site also contains an active Forum with links to YouTube videos and a MySpace page which currently holds around 800 Arnold Town related photographs.
