The
Undertaker could be considered as one of the all-time greats ever to step foot on the squared circle. From the moment he debuted in Survivor Series,
fans were in awe of the phenom. He was after all nothing like what they have seen before. Here was a
wrestler impervious to pain. Here was a guy who sat up after each wrestler’s finishing moves. Here was a guy who had amazing agility for a man his size – he could walk on the top rope, could execute a flying clothesline and lands on his feet when he falls outside the ring.
Through the years, the Undertaker character has evolved. The first incarnation was that of a zombie-like character which was impervious to pain. This version wore gray and black garb. The second one was a purple and black garbed undertaker. For a period of time he wore a mask as well. The third was demonic Undertaker. He was sinister and formed the Ministry of Darkness which included The Acolytes and Viscera. The fourth was a real-life
biker Undertaker. He no longer associated with the spirits of darkness but acted like his real self. The latest is a hybrid Undertaker who is a combination of the
deadman and biker gimmicks.
The Undertaker has feuded with all the greats from Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Steve Austin to Rocky Maivia and Batista. He has top billed many main event matches. He
currently hold an undefeated streak at Wrestlemania at 15-0. Despite not holding the belt as much as Hulk Hogan or Triple H, he has received and continues to receive tremendous support from the fans.
The undertaker has also been through several gimmick matches. He has been involved in casket matches, hell in the cell and elimination chamber matches. He may not have always been the victor but in many of these
matches he always had the chance to win. Oftentimes, opponents who could not match up to the deadman had to resort to dirty tactics.
Mark Calloway will not wrestle forever. He knows that and he currently is into real estate projects. He has said that his stature as a television personality doesn’t guarantee anything but it helps him meet people because they want to talk to him because of who he is. The Undertaker may retire in the near future but his legacy will surely be remember by wrestling fans throughout the world.
