I must admit that I am not given to football fever and would rather ski in the mountains if offered a choice but there is no choice in England as England is certainly a Soccer Football Country and there is enormous interest in Euro 2008 A Football Championship between all the countries football teams who qualify for this competition. It seems to work according to how the managers or the football leader draws certain teams from different countries to play against each other at pre selected cities and venues. For example, Turkey was playing Czech Republic and they won the game and are through to the Quarter Finals ... England is out of this competition Euro 2008 and I read on websites that /simply not good enough/was the general comment ... but then this notion applies to other teams as well as England.
There is great excitement at Turkish Football when they won and now are playing against Croatia in Vienna ........ there was much news on the internet last night and I received a blog from Turkish blog USA . The Istabullee Newspapers and it was absolutely priceless. The whole tenor of it was attack and counter attack as it seems football is also a company which involves itself in my specialism which is word play ... however, Croatia is - saying the Turks are charactistically seen as hand holding men who are not "gay" but carry on like that ...their gestures are translated as meaning stuff and nonsense and the writer says .. never ask a Turk about which side he is racially .. i.e. Is He Asian or European ... as it gets the Turk rallying and raging against you! Reminds me of a joke I heard years ago when resident in Geneva Switzerland .. which ran .. Never tell a Geneva Taxi Driver a joke on Saturday as he is sure to laugh in Church at Mass on Sunday! Privately I fell off my chair laughing at the notion of it all .
Thanks Istanbullee Newspaper and Turkish Blog/USA for all the witty erudite commentaries on Euro 2008 Soccer Football . I have never been to a soccer game or played anything of these all male games .. so I sit quietly in the wings .. writing and watching .. great stuff ... But this year I have for the first time ever had my poem published in America title/Southampton Football Club which will be published in/Immortal Verses/poetry.com 2008 .. wow!
