Mattoo resigns as Hockey India President
The crisis that occurred earlier this month by the revolt of the senior level Indian hockey players is tackled partially by the Indian Olympic Association, and the players are back on the track for the practice session. The HI (Hockey India) could not solve the valid predicament of the players, which itself is an administrative failure. Therefore, the chief had to go because of his lacking of tackling the situation. By saying simply, that the fund is not available cannot be a convincing excuse, hence, there must be transformation in the system. When the players do not get the old dues, it is the fault of the administration.
AK Matoo has taken the convenient step to get rid of the problem, which he was not able to solve. In any case, his tenure going to end on 7 February, so a few days of work without the president could be managed before the election for the new president is held.
Forty years is not a short period that he is associated with the administration of various sports body. He should have well acquainted with the running of the organization, which he failed. For any sports organization, the participants are the key factor of the body, and if they are not looked after justifiably, then everything is wrong in the organization, I would say.
The reason for his resignation is given as allegations made against him, the news report disclosed. What allegations were not said in the report? If the allegations are of corruption nature, then that should be properly investigated. In addition, the people, who have raised the allegations, should be asked for documental proof to substantiate their allegations.
Matoo has refused to continue until the new president is elected that shows his irritated mind in helping Indian Hockey. Overall, it is good that he is gone.
