Modern day soccer

Website Review by: Micheal

Sport, soccer in particular, is it still a game or now a
multi-million pound industry dictated by the mega rich?

Take the English prmiership for instance, almost
American football like now in the busisness sense of the
word, in the last two
to three years major moves have been made within the
major
clubs in England ranging from minute speculation of
takeovers to fullscale takeovers of entire clubs such
as
Chelsea and their new Russian owner Roman Abramovic,
this
man was and is still seen as good as he alone with a
personal fortune of billions dragged Chelsea from
financial
ruin to lead them to a major European super power. On
the
other hand in the case of Manchester United, arguably
one
of the biggest and most popular clubs in the world, a
take-
over involving the American Tycoon Malcolm Glazer
caused
widespread anguish and disgruntlement for many
concerning
the club none more so than the fans, this man was seen
as a
man there just to make a personal profit, a man
obiviously
not in touch with soccer let alone Manchester United
but in
all honesty can we blame the man for making such a bold
move? in my opinion..No, for soccer is no longer JUST a
game but now a lucrative busisness. Sooner or later
this
will be the trend with sports clubs all over the world,
not
just with American football and now the English
Premiership. In the long term this may or maynot
benefit
sport but we cannot hide from the fact that this is now
a
growing trend. In my opinion i believe the game and
entertainment of soccer will not diminish and multi-million
pound take-overs will only benefit and sucessfully improve
the game as a whole especially for the fans who are the
corner stone to any great club.
