From beginning my diploma course in September 2004 I have struggled to make a final decision as to my future studies and decision making.
I was given little help at college and found that there are a variety of websites containing descriptive information on higher education courses and one to one advice via email or telephone (or the customers' preferred method of contact).
A very valuable website for
young people who have an indecisive mind is www.connexions-direct.com They
offer one to one
support for young people aged 13 - 19 and any information shared is guaranteed to remain confidential. Aswell as
career information, the members of the
connexions support group will give information and support for any troubles children and young people develop throughout childhood and adolescence.
Connexions offer support groups nationwide and can put young people in touch with a personal adviser. Young people can communicate with a member of the support
team twenty four hours a day using a variety of media sources. Connexions offer a free-phone helpline, which is open twenty four hours a day, a direct email address putting young people in touch with a member of the support group or online adviser. A text service is also, available, however this is charged at your operators normal charge.
The connexions support team will operate a call back service to any child who requires them to do so.
The connexions support team do not ask for any personal details, however you can pass them over if you feel that you want to, and every piece of information is kept confidential.
Under no circumstances would a young person ever be persuaded to do something against their will. Connexions, however, will give their advice, make reasonable suggestions and give plenty of information to ensure the child is receiving sufficient help.
Connexions offers
confidential support and information ranging from issues such as sexual health, housing and career information for young children.
Outside agencies work closely with the members of the connexions support team and provide extended help and information for young people. For example, housing and financial help is given to single parents, from government officials, who are living alone.
As well as information and advice, the connexions team offer rewards for young people aged 16 - 19. Any young person aged between 16 and 19 is elegible for a connexions card. This is topped up with points received from having good attendance at school and achievement at school or in the workplace. The reward points received on the connexions card can be exchanged for discounted products, prize raffles and free products.
The connexions support team will put young people in contact with higher education institutes and universities and can provide educational support.
The team will not only provide support to young people, but to Early Years Practitioners and Educational proffessionals, in how to advise them in how to help and give guidance on career and personal information.
