Design
and Analysis of
Ultra capacitors – A new trend in
Energy storage Abstract
Capacitors are used as
primary energy storing
devices in any electronic or electric devices. The
storage
capacity of any capacitor is directly proportional to the surface areas
of the
plates and the dielectric constant of the medium between the plates. The
ultra capacitors work on the same principle which capacitors use, but with
slight variation in the design.
The advent of Nano technology has enabled in
manufacture of very small sized components. Carbon nano tubes generated using
such technology are used to increase the surface area of the capacitor plates.
This invariably increases the storage capacity, which when discharged produces
a high magnitude of power, i.e., high energy being produced in a very short
interval of time. This technique of increasing the capacity when used in
capacitors produce a different variety of capacitors called Ultra capacitors.
The design and working
of the ultra capacitors discussing the advantages using a valid mathematical
analysis is dealt here. The areas into which the ultra capacitors are put into
use are increasing day by day. From regenerative braking, in automobiles like
cars and trains to high end camera flash lights, the innovative ideas on how to
use ultra capacitors are introduced in this paper, with a comparative analysis
to the existing technology.
Ultra capacitors seem
to create a new trend in all the power generating devices with a greater
efficiency and compact sizes in a world where energy crisis seems to be a major
issue.
