The long-awaited premiere of the film ‘Sivaji’ starring
popular style icon Rajnikanth was
postponed at two places in Madurai today.
As observed in the past, the presence of Rajni in a film is a sign of sure shot
success, with fans queuing up for upto 12 hours before the start of the show.
Much to their chagrin, however, they found that they had been waiting in vain,
with shows being inappropriately cancelled/ postponed. The pulsating anger soon
found its way into the hands of the aggravated
public who started pelting
stones and blocking traffic. It may also be noted that many fans had stood for
even longer while awaiting an opportunity to purchase tickets in advance.
What followed was, of course, tragic yet inevitable. The
police were forced into action to
maintain decorum and resorted to
lathicharge to prevent fans from causing
further damage to property.
Police maintain that only 2 people were hurt while the
others managed to escape the scene. This has demonstrated, yet another time,
the magnitude of hero-worship in India.Vive la Rajni!!
