Ghost Hunting 101

Since I have been ghost hunting now for over 5 years I have people ask me what it takes to hunt ghosts. I often think there is so much to say, the Paranormal is not an exact Science but as with anything with trial and error we find a basis for investigation etiquette. The following are rules that must of us follow when on a hunt. The first and far most objective in ghost hunting is to keep an open mind. Without this one might not experience all the sounds and vibes from an area that is haunted. Take with you, a blanket, a flashlight, a camera, a video cam, and a recorder. Also have some water, and a few snacks. Don't forget your cell phone in case of emergencies. Have fresh batteries, and make sure you are not going alone. Never, ever go alone under any circumstances. Bring your ID with you and don't forget to ask permission from any owners of the area to be there. When entering a place under investigation be careful. Always go to the place during daylight hours to acquaint yourself with the building and the layout so you don't trip or get hurt when you go there at night. This is very important. When setting up equipment and recording, make sure you are very quiet so you don't get your voices on the tape and think it's an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) voices of the dead.
I set up the recorder, make sure the batteries are fresh and press the play button then I leave the area and sit out in my car so I know the voices caught on tape aren't mine. I also ask the spirits out loud if there is anything they want to say before I turn the tape on to record. Film everything. Avoid taking pictures near light and don't smoke while you are taking pictures, you don't want that to show up on film as mist. Bugs at night are commonly mistaken for orbs, so be careful with that, and make sure your camera lens are clean as well, you can get fake orbs from dust being on the lens as well. And by all means, don't take pics in the rain, those too are mistaken as orbs. Mainly, just use common sense when you're out there. Leave the place as you found it, don't litter, make noise or destroy property. Most all just have fun and be careful. ~ Ghost Writer
