Myspace.com is a free site where self expression is encouraged to meet new friends and keep up with the current media trends. With any site that allows free reign over personal webpages, you run across every imaginable personality type. The beauty is you have creative control and are the only one who can add people as friends. The benefits of friends include being able to leave comments on their site, leaving them comments on pictures they host and sending/receiving bulletins (emails sent to all your friends). The option is always there to delete friends you no longer wish to maintain contact with.
In filling out your profile you answer optional questions about school(s) you attend(ed) and other general interests. You are easily able to find other people that are currently attending/alumni of your school(s), or that share common ground. You may enter your entertainment (music, tv, books) preferences and, unless you disable this feature, anyone viewing your profile may click any title and be taken to links for reviews and purchase (i.e. www.amazon.com) of that item. Musical artist (independant and signed) use myspace to promote themselves and generate a fan base.
You can also participate in groups, forums and blogs, play games, host videos and songs, be notified of upcoming events and much more. Myspace and its image hosting affiliates have a "no porn" policy, and you can report anyone who posts distastful pictures on their site for the administrations to handle accordingly. Anyone under the age of 16 have a private site (only viewed by friends). I encourage parental involvement in monitoring these sites, but the fear of foulplay is the same as going to the mall. www.Myspace.com is an entertaining experience.
