Wasnt it Britain's Ken Loach who had several attempts at winning at Cannes and won with a film about which little is said other than /the British in Ireland/ or The Wind that Shakes the Barley!
I must admit I tend towards the US for clarity and consistency in modern and recent themes such as 9/11 and apparently Michael Moore US Film Director did win the prize/Palm d'Or at Cannes in 2004 for his film Farenheit 9/11.
But the short film is discussed at length at Cannes by the presenter and You Tube is a great favourite as its free and one can download on YouTube for a /short/ ...
Cartoons and the Muslim Faith .. give it a whirl .. the Danish Cartoons and the rights and wrongs of satire in religion are discussed and apparently the French Ruling Class felt that the satire on Islam was not in good taste .. though there were massive protests in large cities worldwide in this respect.
Oman Sharif (Dr Zhivago - Russian Novel by Boris Pasternak)is there in person at Cannes Film Festival and some people are discussing the relevance of great stars being present .. I am sure it all adds to the flavour of the Cannes Film Festival .. thanks Turkish blog for Cannes Reports .. great work .. keep blogging..
