Wikipedia is an online free encyclopedia. It is the only site where you can access free content. You can also submit articles to wikipedia. Volunteers from around the world collaboratively write the content in wikipedia. This site was created in 2001. On an average, wikipedia has at least 683 million visitors annually. It is one of the largest reference website. It is a website which attempts to collect and summarize all human knowledge in every major language.
Wikipedia was started as a compliment for Nupedia a free online-English language encyclopedia. Larry Sangers and Jimmy wales are the founders of wikipedia.
Almost every article on wikipedia can be edited either with a user account or anonymously. For submitting an article one must login with a user ID and password. A "History" page is attached to each article which contains every single past revision of the article.
There is also a "Discussion" pages associated with each article which is used to coordinate work among multiple editors. Any changes to articles to be made are made available immediately. Wikipedia "makes no guarantee of validity" of its content. Wikipedia contains materials that a certain group of people may find objectionable or offensive. Wikipedia does not censor itself.
Wikipedia servers are hosted at Florida, United States. Wikipedia has introduced an assessment scale against which the quality of articles is judged. Roughly 2,100 articles have passed a rigorous set of criteria to reach the highest rank, "featured article" status.
Wikipedia currently ranks among the top ten most-visited web sites worldwide. Wikipedia is constantly updated, hence it has received major media attention as an online source of breaking news.
