YouTube is an online video sharing website. It was started by three former PayPal employees, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. They developed the idea for YouTube after they had experienced difficulty sharing videos that had been shot at a dinner party at Chen's apartment in San Francisco.
Youtube is a site where users can upload, view and share video clips. Youtube is now owned by Google. It was bought by Google Inc. for US$1.65 billion. Youtube displays a wide variety of user-generated video content, which includes movie clips, TV clips, music videos and short original videos. The content on YouTube is mostly uploaded by members who belong to the general public. Unregistered users have viewing rights, while registered users are allowed to upload videos. There is no limit for uploading videos.
Videos containing defamation, commercial advertisements, pornography, copyright violations, and material encouraging criminal conduct are prohibited by YouTube.
The first video that was uploaded on YouTube was Me at the zoo, and shows the founder Jawed Karim at San Diego Zoo.
