O bom português

Website Review   by:Petite Etoille

The Portuguese was educated to think only things that are foreign are good. Portugal is more and more losing its identity to a “nation” privatized and run by an anonimous travel agent.

There’s the tv shows, there’s musics… everything is copied even the quality of life we want to imitate, but whitout having the capacity to do so. But we are no the ones to blame. The fault lies with our past governments, that it did not have the strengh to hold on to the momentum generated by the 25 of April revolution! I bet who lived during those days, right now, even sometimes miss the “tightening the belt” Salazar’s way!...
Anything to escape this crisis!...
Fortunately that wouldn’t be viable.

Oporto wine is no longer ours, we now only produce it’s grapes… in spite of what some say.

Algrave is no longer ours either… watch them tourists gaining terrain. But this is good. Tourism still is our breadwinner. And of our government’s, “Poor crocodile”.

You want literacy? Here you have it. Pay one, take two.

You want houses? Half a dozen small time exploitations of the East (labor), that are now in sales, and… TADA! There you have your new condominiums… (And who blames them? …) So many of us do the same. It is survival law.

But who is purchasing these houses? We or the tourists? Yes, because the Portuguese don’t have what it takes for this…

And where it is the resourcefulness for the creation of new jobs? There is something we don’t bother to copy.

I mean, we are like a married woman waiting for her husband who just went “around the corner” looking for a job to help pay his mortgage and raise their children properly.

I want to say, we we are as a woman married to the wait of the husband who was alone to the “esquina” to look work, to pay the credit to the habitation, to create the children as he must of being.

Meanwhile, when the husband finally returns, the wife is tired of being f….d, half the family is dead and he no longer belongs to the land where is was borned and raised. Now he is just a foreigner like anyone else

However, when the husband finally returns, the woman is satiated of being f…., half of the family died and it already does not belong to the land where he was born and he grew. E now is only one foreigner, as all the others. (Salvoseja)

One sees doctors and teacher embark for Africa or America, where they will have more and better chances of a future. Mas the John doe, that always was welcoming, gives to lends a roof to everyone ! Except for its own people…
