1) If you are a beginner, start with 150 word articles
Even if you choose to write an article of 150 word, it will take you an hour (or even more) to research, put the content together, grammar check and duplication check, before submitting. For larger number of word articles, you may need 3-5 hours as well. If the requester didn't like your work, he will reject your work and your hard work would be wasted, not to mention you have to live with it. To avoid such heart-breaks in the beginning, write smaller articles (150 words)
2) Make stronger relationships with requester.
Make sure that when you write for a requester, then give your best effort. Requester will see that effort and may choose to assign the task directly to you in future rather than making it available for everyone to pick from. Do your research well, and thrive for good ratings which will help other requesters see the talent in you. Don't just write in volumes for the sake of making more money
3) Do a grammar check before posting
Use online grammar check tools to see if the grammar is correct. I have found http://www.grammarcheck.net/ to be quite useful, along with http://spellcheckplus.com/. You can also use Microsoft word for checking obvious spelling mistakes and grammar.
4) Do a content duplication check
You need this to avoid your account getting banned. Ideally, you should use copyscape software, but since that is a licensed software and you may not want to spend money on it, you need to at least use http://www.plagium.com/ and http://www.duplichecker.com/ to be on the safer side
5) Do a proper research, and make sure that you know what you are posting
Believe me, you can easily identify non-sense in an article if you know about the subject. So, you need to get to the bottom of the subject before writing on it. Make sure that you choose those subjects initially which fall in your interest area and you have the experience in those subjects. Use online resources like wikipedia for getting the basic understanding of the subjects.
