In this year's election, we can identify the defects of US-style democracy. (1)The election performance is in violation
of some democratic principles. The tedious course, overelaborate registration of voter and disordered administration in election have been injuring the citizen's enthusiasm and rights in voting to a certain extent, so as to make the number of voters much less than before. And under the electoral college system, a presidential candidate with more elector' votes but less voter's votes than his contestant can be elected so that a minority
president is to come out. Just due to this case in the 2000 election, the contest between the Democratic Party and Republic Party especially around the vote recount in Florida is extremely furious. (2)The campaign with large money has been abetting
corruption. The campaign expenditure this year broke the past record, much more of it in the name of “soft money” are against the law in reality. What has been done between the contributors and raisers is a bargain between money and authority, namely corruption in essence. (3)The malignant partisan rivalry is harmful to socio-political stability. The partisan lawsuits on the vote recount in Florida have drawn the US judicature into chaos for the first time and judging them under the shadow of a party, impacting on the present legal and political order. Longer undecided lawsuit delays the birth of the new president and makes troubles for the up-coming government. In a word, civil rights haven't been far more guaranteed in the US, while only the people with power and wealth is the real master of the country.
