strategic position. Politically, the current Indian government has been the most popular one in this decade and its policies have won a wide ranging support among most Indians. Economically, India has already reached an average of 6.5% growth rate since 1990s and will hit 7-9% in the next two decades. With the superiority in skilled human resources and technological expertise, India adopted an aggressive policy for IT industry which has now shared 16.7% of the world’s software market and 60% of American software market.Diplomatically, India has been trying its best to coordinate the relationship with other big powers. Russo-Indian
relations turned warm; U.S.-Indian relations warmed up rapidly, peaked by the Clinton’s March visit to India and the framwork document signed by both sides as a guideline for a new partnership; Nippon-Indian relations have also turned warm; Euro-Indian relations are kept at a constantly good level, and ASEAN-Indian relations has seen a breakthrough. Militarily, India has built up a modern power with 1.14 million troops and, with two aircraft carriers (a third one is possibly in its designing stage), its navy has the ability to extend the operations to the Pacific.
