Abstract In Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the
International Human Rights Declaration In half a century, the
international human rights course has gone through several historical turning points. First, human rights broke the limits of national boundaries and became
international human rights in a true sense. Second, the long time threats posed by fascism, serfdom and colonialism against the right of existence and the right of development of the human being have been stamped out. And last, more consensus have been reached on understanding of human rights in the international community and progresses, of different degrees, have been made by countries all over the world in protecting human rights. However, international human rights are being faced with various kinds of challenges in the upcoming 21st century. a) There still exist threats of nuclear, biological, chemical and other weapons of mass destruction. b) Drug trafficking and drug consumption are still prevailing despite repeated prohibitions. c) The ecological environment continues to deteriorate. d) The brilliant achievements in developing mini surgery, bioengineering, outer space exploration and information technology make the human rights issue more complicated. e) Poverty issue is a considerably severe challenge facing the 21st century. f) The current irrational world economic order constitutes a serious obstacle to the promotion of international human rights course. g) Power politics and the human rights protection of anti human rights activities, will continue to hinder the course of protecting human rights of each
country. Every country in the world should further update its concept and vigorously go into action so as to ensure a big leap forward in the international human rights course in the 21st century.
