Amid the wave of the multiparty
democratic movement in Africa, Guinea has consistently maintained a basically stable political
situation and sustained eco-nomic growth. The chief characteristics and experiences of the Guinean multi-party
democratic movement are as follows; One, the insistence of making laws first before lifting the ban on party activity and organizing elections; Two, the insistence of organizing and guiding elections by the government; Three, the arrangement of democratic transition process according to the national condition of the country; Four, dealing with the
opposition with both toughness and dialogue; Five, paying serious attention to educating all the people about stability and unity, and duly meeting the rational demands of the masses of the people. Besides, the more profound reasons lie in Guinea s special national tradition and social political conditions: Firstly, the Guinean people have both the glorious tradition of defending their national independence and the national character of neither submitting to external pressure nor casually catering to the trend; Secondly, Guinea enjoys a relatively relaxed ethnic relations; Thirdly the opposition forces are comparatively weak in Guinea and are in a state of split; Fourthly, the political, economic and socia' crises in Guinea are not very serious.
