Comments on Yao Nai's poems

Article Abstract by: TsingHua

Original Author: Journal of Hefei University of Technolog(Social Sciences)
This abstract was translated from 姚鼐的诗刍议
Since the founding of People's Republic of China, various editions of literature history have been published, in all these
editions only proses of Yao Nai have been included while excluding his poetry. Some of these editions even consider Yao's poetry as hardly worth studying. However, as long as we adopt an objective attitude toward his poetry, we can find its profoundness, solemnity and vigorousness are typical qualities which are traceable in Du Fu's poetry. So it is by no means hardly worth studying, instead, it is articulate and vigorous, profound and magnificent, sincere and resourceful. Some poems are interactively combined with proses, which enhances the poetic sense of beauty. Not only does his poetry inherits the essence of those ancient master poets, but has its own innovations. Actually, his poetry has an everlasting influence upon the poetic creation in early modern times in China. Consequently, there is no reason for Yao's poetry being excluded outside our poetic research realm.
