The
writers clustering in Wuzhou (婺州), Zhejiang, and those in the area Wu (吴, mostly now in the province of Jiangsu) constituted
two important regional literary groups
in the joint period of Yuan and Ming. They were all active at that time, and their works as well as their activities rendered great influence to the future generations. These two writer groups were closely connected by their mutual intercourses, however, they still differed with each other in their living mode, political pursuits and literary creation. As the
writers clustering in Wuzhou were matched with the will of the king Zhu Yuanzhang, their thought and literary activities decided the guideline of the Early Ming literature. Quite a number of members in these two writer groups were confronted with miserable destinies. To investigate into the similarities and differences between these two writer groups, to analyze their causes and to make clear the relation between the literati and the politics are of great significance.
