On February 1st, the American
parliament openly passed the so-called “Taiwan Security Enhancement Law”. It not only crudely
violates China’s sovereignty but also tremendously impinges US-China
relations. The profound background of this bill are: (a)in US
parliament, those pro-Taiwan congressmen are bent on making troubles in Taiwan issue. (b)the conservative force in the parliament caters to the need of the US global strategy. (c)to provide bases for bringing Taiwan into the TMD. (d)the ill-effect of the two parties’ struggle in the US election year. (e)the impetus of Taiwan authority’s “money diplomacy”. The major idea of this bill is to supplement and further implement the Act of “Taiwan Relations Act”, strengthen US military commitment to Taiwan. Its contents largely go beyond the US current arms sale policy to Taiwan, producing tremendous harms: (a) upgrade relationship with Taiwan, interferes with China’s domestic affairs and ravages US-China relations. (b) further contribute to the aggressive arrogance of the Taiwan independence force, threaten the peace and stability of the Taiwan straits and even the Asia-Pacific region. (c)aggravate the burden of the Taiwan people and trigger off arms race.
