Considered as a function of the public authorities, the foreign policy of the Republic of Bulgaria complies with the constitutional
principles of state structure. Foreign policy
priorities, which currently design the policy of the government and the efforts of Bulgarian diplomacy, aim to establish most favourable internal conditions and foreign environment for the
development and prosperity of the Bulgarian society. They include as follows: the integration to NATO, the membership in the European Union, a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the OSCE Chairmanship, the development of the regional cooperation both bilateral and multilateral, the development of the Euro-Atlantic partnership, and the development of the Euro-Atlantic partnership, the development of relations with the Russian Federation and the other CIS countries, the countries of the Middle East as well as the countries of the Asia and Pacific Region. The People's Republic of China occupies a priority place among Bulgarian partners in Asia. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the bilateral relations have been friendly without open issues or political contradictions for 55 years.
