Weakness of Singapore part 1

Article Abstract by: zixin

Original Author: Baojia
The speed of Mass Rapid Transit is only 78km/hr yet it shakes all the time.I have brought up this matter to the transportation
department, yet they are not taking any action.
These are the replies I received:

To: SMRT Corporate Communications
The speed of the MRT is very slow, which is even slower than a snail, yet it is still shaking so I have the feeling that am on board a boat.Increase the speed of by at least twice or Singapore will be the laughing stock of the world if the other countries were to know the current speed of the MRT now.Perhaps the name should be changed to MST which is Mass Slow Transit. This kind of poor service do not have the right to charge such a high fare.

Thank you for your feedback. We wish to share the speed of MRT train is between 0 to 80km/h. Most of the times our trains are operated in automatic mode meaning the speed is pre-programmed according to the track condition and to keep a safety distance between trains for safety reasons. We hope the above information is useful and look forward to your continual support of SMRT. Ang Siew Tee

Thank you for your feedback. In order that we my follow up on your observation, would you mind sharing with us the specifics of the complaint about the slow speed of MRT trains? Was it a general observation or was it an isolated incident? Finally, please forward to us your complaint to SMRT which you claimed they did not act upon.
Goh Teck Seng Director Corporate Development/QSM for Permanent Secretary (Transport)    From:me
To:Goh Teck Seng It is a general observation and I have read in the newspapers that the speed is only 78km/hr.I have taken a ride in the other countries and the speed there is fast and steady, even if someone on board holds a glass of water filled to the brim, the water will not spill. However if someone holds a glass of water not filled to the brim,it is likely that it will spill.  From:Goh Teck Seng

It would appear that SMRT has good reasons ( because of track condition and safety) to keep its trains within a certain speed limit. In any case, a speed of 78km/hr is not slow. Would you like to pursue the matter further?

So are you telling me that you are going to take a blind eye?Are you telling me that you don't mind the people suffer? Are you telling me that you don't mind Singapore being laughed at by the whole world? Is this the reply I get from the minster?I wonder if you are the minster. If you are, then Singapore does not need someone who does not have the information that someone in the transportation department need to know. You should be grateful that you are not living in USSR in the 1900s.Because if you were, you would have been overthrown countless times as someone like you who does not understand the pain and suffering of the people will not be liked by the citizens. If 78km/hr(slower than a car on express high way) is not slow, should the MRT of other countries travelling at the speed of close to 200 be called travelling at the speed of light?I suggest that you take the MRT for a few months and I am sure that you will take action against it as you will not be able to take it.Yet you people are always critising Taiwan,a country with MRT travelling at the speed of 100 plus at.If you are better than Taiwan of course you can critise them, but when you are worse, you don't have the right to do so.
